Announcing an essential new journal from the Specialist Journals division of Nature Publishing Group:
The
Pharmacogenomics
Journal
Edited by Professor Julio Licinio, UCLA, USA
Launching May 2001, The Pharmacogenomics Journal
will integrate original research into the Human Genome
Project and the emerging fields of genomics and proteomics,
with pharmacology and therapeutics, producing the ultimate
resource for the pharmacogenomics field.
The Pharmacogenomics Journal is a print
and electronic journal which is dedicated to the rapid
publication of original research on pharmacogenomics and
its clinical applications. Topics covered in this journal
include:
- the identification of novel genomic targets for drug
development
- the clinical applications of genomic science
- potential benefits of pharmacogenomics
- effects of genetic variability on drug toxicity and
efficacy
- pharmacokinetic variation and drug toxicity
- pharmacodynamic variation and drug efficacy.
The Pharmacogenomics Journal publishes
original research, reviews, debates and controversies. In
addition, industry news and articles covering ethical,
health economic and legal perspectives will also be
published.
The Pharmacogenomics Journal is essential
reading for geneticists, molecular biologists, clinical and
molecular pharmacologists, as well as the biotechnology and
pharmaceutical industries
“As part of the Specialist Journals division of Nature Publishing Group, The
Pharmacogenomics Journal will be the leading
journal specifically dedicated to articles that examine
the genetic and genomic basis of drug response, and that
identify novel genomic targets for pharmacological
treatment.”

PRESS RELEASE
The birth of the world’s largest life science reference work
Over 5,000 leading scientists to contribute to on-line encyclopedia
www.els.net
Macmillan Reference Ltd (Part of the Nature Publishing Group) has launched ‘Embryonic’ ELS, offering a valuable preview of the single most ambitious reference source ever to be published in the biological sciences: the Encyclopedia of Life Sciences.
To be published in 2001, the Encyclopedia of Life Sciences will be a work of unprecedented scope and quality, comprising 4,000 articles, 12 million words and 7,500 illustrations. ELS will integrate current theory, practice and understanding of all fundamental and many applied aspects of the life sciences. Its online format means it will be continually updated, making it a key resource for students, researchers, academic and public libraries and schools in the next millennium.
Users of ‘Embryonic’ ELS will have the unique opportunity to access the ELS database as it evolves during the year 2000. The database currently holds over 2 million words, and users will have continued access as the number of articles increases and as subject areas develop. ‘Embryonic’ ELS does not offer the sophisticated search retrieval facilities, advanced functionality and external links that will be integral to the full product, in 2001. However, it is fully searchable, allowing users to browse the complete hierarchy of article titles and retrieve full text articles where these have been delivered.
ELS’s editorial scope will be broad, with particular emphasis on cell and molecular biology and its relevance to medicine. Core subjects in the life sciences will be extensively covered – biochemistry, cell biology, developmental biology, ecology, evolution, genetics, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, neuroscience, plant science, physiology, structural biology and virology. ELS will also include information from a wide range of related areas, such as methods and techniques, bioinformatics, biotechnology and clinical medicine. In addition, coverage of 500 biographies, and topics such as bioethics, history and philosophy of science, places and organizations will form an important part of the Encyclopedia.
‘Embryonic’ ELS is available for £125 at www.els.net for access until the beginning of 2001. For more information on the Encyclopedia of Life Sciences please contact Natasha Robshaw Tel: +44 (0) 207 881 8026, n.robshaw@macmillan.co.uk or visit our web site www.els.net.
